Inez A. Becker

Inez A. Becker, 91, of Sumner, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Michael Christie officiating. Interment will follow at Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner. Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 9^th, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday.

Inez Arlene Allan Becker was born July 6, 1923 at home in Manly, Iowa to Robert Allan and Ara (Finch) Allan. She married Wilbert Becker of Sumner on January 2, 1944 in Northwood, Iowa. Three children were born to this marriage. Barbara Janine Becker (deceased), Rosemary Longmuir (Ron) Manchester, Iowa, and Norette Kay Marinangeli Versailles, Kentucky. She graduated from Northwood Schools in 1941 and attended AIB in Des Moines. Inez worked for a time for the State of Iowa in Des Moines. Later, she worked many years at the Sumner Gazette and then for many years took care of children in Sumner. She was a member of Sumner United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and American Legion Auxilary. She loved kids and family.

Inez is survived by two daughters, Rosemary (Ron) Longmuir of Manchester, Iowa and Norette Kay Marinangeli of Versailles, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Drs. Reid (Susannah) Longmuir, Nashville, Tennessee, Rebecca (Christopher) Rothfuss, North Liberty, Iowa, RJ (Ronald) Longmuir, Manchester, Iowa, and Katherine (Benjamin) Flannery, Lexington, Kentucky; and four great grandchildren, Charlotte and Thomas Longmuir and Emily and Abigail Rothfuss.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Barbara; a son-in-law, Ken Marinangeli; and a brother, Dr. Robert Allan.

I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting your family but by all the wonderful comments its clear you lost someone who was dearly loved by many and will truly be missed. I recently lost my grandfather just last month. He was my most favorite person throughout my childhood. It’s so hard to know just how to say goodbye. But I do take comfort in knowing that God promises that if we draw close to Him then He will draw close to us - James 4:8. And He truly has been there when I seek His comfort in prayer so I hope your family can do the same. I also recommend www.jw.org. This website has lots of helpful information on loss and grief. Sorry to hear of the passing of Inez. As a young person living in Sumner and later in Denver, I remember the many times that my parents (Ed and Phyllis) would break into laughter whenever Inez was visiting. She was a very good friend to my mother and my sister Mary for over 40 years and I'm sure to many others. Keep them laughing Inez. It was and is a great gift that you gave everyone that was blessed by your presence here on earth.

Inez was one of my very favorite ladies...a strong woman in so many ways!...so positive. I remember her walking home from work every day..going by the funeral home and north onto her home. Always pleasant and sincere. Sincere sympathy to you, Rosemary and Norette, and your families.

Inez was one of Mom's (Marjorie Schuldt Blake) favorite people. They met in their early 20s and from then on, Inez was one of those people who could make my mom laugh so hard whenever she would retell some story Inez had told her. Thanks for all the laughter you brought to my mom's life, Inez. Now you're up there in heaven with Aunt Phil and Mom yakking and laughing it up together again!

I am so sorry to hear of Inez's passing. What a great lady! It was easy to love her and she was so much fun. When my Mom moved to Sumner Inez befriended her right away and visited Mom often. She is flying high now and Heaven has gained a great Angel!H
